About arapalla
Situated in the beautiful Halls Creek area of NSW, our property "Wellbank" is almost exactly halfway between Bendemeer and Manilla on a dusty gravel road that ambles through the most glorious countryside. We moved up here from the "big smoke," driven by a yearning for a peaceful country life where we could enjoy our horses and learn about managing an acreage. Well, when we moved up here, the region was entering into the worst drought it had seen for over 100 years. Everything was dry and as the years went by with no rain, our place became a dustbowl. When the wind blew we had dust storms and the house was covered in a fine film of red dust, both inside and out. Luckily at the time we only had five horses and a reliable bore so we weren't in as much of a predicament as many of the landholders on surrounding properties who struggled with feeding cattle and sheep. After nearly 3 years I was starting to wonder if it ever actually rained out here. We were so very fortunate to have the bore because there was no other water anywhere else. Then in the Spring of 2019 we got some rain, not much at first, but it continued to rain more frequently throughout 2020 and 2021 and we saw the place come to life, and what a magical experience it has been since then. Water in the creek and green grass waist high. Once the drought broke we decided to breed two mares and were blessed with two healthy foals in 2020, an Arabian Stockhorse colt and an Appy x Arabian filly. It's been full steam ahead since then with the purchase of the black Arabian stallion Salam Shahzor (sold in 2023) and the Sportaloosa colt Elleon White Knight. In the broodmare band we have three pure Arabian mares, two Thoroughbred mares, an Anglo mare, and an Appaloosa x Arabian mare. We also have two geldings who we take to endurance rides and we retained the fillies AP Just A Daydream, AP Summerhaze, Arapalla Evoke and Arapalla Elusive.
Update - Salam Shahzor has been sold to a small Arabian Stud SW of Sydney. In the meantime we are re-assessing where we are in our breeding ventures. We are on the lookout for another stallion (coloured derivative or pure Crabbet) - watch this space.
2024 has brought us only one foal. 2025 will bring us two, possibly 3 foals.
Our goal is to breed a small number of foals every year and our stallions will be available to outside mares. Foals will be available for purchase.
